We have been using 2–3 small yarn strips as sighters on our Keiryu and Honryu setups.

Because Keiryu and Honryu rods are longer than typical Euro nymphing rods, we’ve found that using multiple yarn sighters makes them much easier to see.

In this video, I was fishing with the Keiryu 44, a 14-foot rod.

Once tied onto the line, the yarn stays where you place it but is still easy to slide up or down to adjust the position. It’s a simple, lightweight setup that works really well with longer rods.

Honryu is not the easiest way to catch a fish. A

Honryu is not the easiest way to catch a fish.

A 20~30 foot long rod, no-weight mono line, and a sighter drifting 30–50 feet away… it definitely takes some getting used to.

I wouldn’t recommend it for beginners, but if you’re looking for a different kind of challenge and a new way to get some action, Honryu is a lot of fun.
